What is heartburn
and why does it occur? Part of heartburn is gravitational in effect because
when you lay down, the stomach acid actually can move through the stomach, past
the valve if the valve has any defect, and get into the esophagus. That
esophagus is not meant to sustain acid and when that acid gets in there, it
causes irritation and pain. That is what you perceive as heartburn.
