Music May Help Premature Babies

Playing music for premature babies may lessen their pain and improve their feeding habits according to researchers in the Archives of Diseases in Childhood.  It's a Canadian study.  They analyzed nine other studies on music for babies and found there was evidence that babies had less pain during needle sticks or circumcision when they listened to music during the procedure.  There is also some evidence that music could improve babies' oral feeding.  However, the authors say the studies are mostly preliminary and they need to be confirmed through further research.  We like these studies on music because what they show is that you can actually be affected by your environment and things like music can make a big difference.
