Evaluating a Fever of Unknown Origin

You've heard of UFOs, well there's such a thing as an FUO.  That's a fever of unknown origin.  Sometimes people experience fever and they don't know why it occurs.  Doctors evaluate it and they're not sure.  For fever of unknown origin, we often try to rule out a bacterial cause.  In addition to that, we rule out other causes that might be problematic.  For instance, if you're on medications, certain drugs, it can actually lead to fever.  An FUO has to be evaluated.  So if you're suffering from fever and not getting better, you have to make sure of why it's going on so there's nothing big that's underlying it.
