Despite the fact
that millions have been spent looking for one, and many an unethical marketer
has promoted it, there is no magic pill for weight loss. Many women are
searching for this answer, but the bottom line is a harsh one. Overweight
people can achieve greater weight loss success with a combination of a
low-calorie diet, increased physical activity, and behavioral changes.
The best case scenario is to allow people to learn about the foods to eat, how
to choose them at restaurants and the store, as well as providing support for
exercise.

Sleep More to Weigh Less
If you’re a child, and you want to knock off a few pounds, one of the theories is just get more sleep. That’s a word from a study in the American Journal of Epidemiology which followed more than 68,000 people over a 16-year period. Now, what they found is that researchers who found patients who caught more Z’s each night tend to put less weight on throughout their entire life. It’s a Case Western University research study. Basically, the amount of sleep you’re looking for is independent, and it varies by age.

Coffee and Weight Loss
A lot of people
drink coffee because it gives them more energy. They also think it helps take
the weight off, but according to a report from the Mayo Clinic, drinking coffee
and other caffeinated beverages won’t do you any good in reference to losing
weight and keeping it off. Here’s the nitty-gritty directly from the experts at
Mayo. Caffeine acts as a diuretic. It causes the body to temporarily retain
less water, but there is nothing to suggest that these effects are permanent
and the stimulant does nothing to reduce body fat. After this, the fact that
drinking coffee actually puts more strain on the heart of people exercising,
you quickly realize it doesn’t help with weight loss. The bottom line is if you
want to drink coffee, do so in moderation, but definitely don’t do it to count
on these so-called benefits to lose weight. It’s not going to help you lose
weight. It’s not going to have that big of an effect.

How You Lose Weight Is Important for Success
Losing weight is
important, but how you lose it is even more important. A lot of people go
on diets where they get dramatic losses in weight over a short period of
time. But those diets are often doomed to failure because the people who
lost that weight will gain it relatively rapidly and that is a problem.
One of the problems we have to deal with when it comes to dieting is people
don't always understand that the weight loss that they can have is actually one
which is transient. It may last 6 months or 8 weeks, but it's not going
to last a lifetime. Changing life habits is the way to do it.

Unexplained Weight Loss in Teens
When you see an
unexplained weight loss in a teenager you have to think about several things.
First of all, you look at their mood. Are they depressed? Are they eating
properly? Secondly, is it an intentional thing they’re not telling you about?
Are they on a diet? Do they feel they’re overweight and they want to lose
weight? Discuss it with them. Beyond that, you have to start thinking about
other illnesses. Are there problems associated with it? One other thing…sometimes
children go through growth spurts. They may not lose weight, but it looks like
they lost weight because they’ve grown up so fast. You’ll also often find that
in boys during adolescence.

Study Shows Women of Young Children Eat More Calories
Are you having a
struggle with weight loss? Well, now you have someone to blame.
According to a study from the University of Minnesota, mothers of young
children were heavier and ate more calories, fatty foods, and sugary drinks
than women without children. In addition, both parents were less active
than those of the same age without children. The study was not a small
one. There were over 1,500 adults with children younger than five and
according to the report which is in the journal Pediatrics, mothers in this
study with young children had a diet so poor, they'd have to walk three miles a
day to not gain a pound.

Study Looks at Calories and Weight Gain
It is a very
simple concept: Calories in, calories out. The more calories you take in,
the greater your chances you will gain weight. The problem is that many
people, in fact, most of us, do not want to believe it. We're always
looking for an edge. We want some way that we can beat the system.
So, if you're looking for a way to beat the system, you will not be happy with
the results of a study done at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Researchers
followed a large group of healthy, middle-aged, U.S. women for more than a
decade. The first step of the study confirmed the fact that too many
calories leads to weight gain (that's pretty obvious). In the second part
of the study they found that for those who started off at a healthy weight,
being successful at maintaining a normal weight meant participating in an
average of 60 minutes a day of moderately intense exercise.

Anorexia Is Rooted in Body-Image Issues
Anorexia is a serious health problem; one which has a strong psychological component. I think one of the things that we really need to talk about is the fact that when someone has weight loss that is of a type that makes you think of anorexia, you have to think of what their body self-image is, how they feel about themselves, because correcting that sometimes is the best way to correct the weight issues. Believe me, it is not easy, but it's important to try.
