Flexibility can
be a good and bad thing. Certainly, it helps. It helps in a woman when she’s
going to have a baby. It helps with the joints, the ligaments and the tendons
over time. It keeps you from being stressed. However, the problem with
flexibility is it also can make you more likely to have a knee injury or a
problem associated with it. Flexibility needs to be controlled, in a sense. In
other words, you can stretch, which is good for you, but you have to strengthen
the muscles. If you strengthen the muscles around particular joints that are
very flexible, you increase their stability and strength and you decrease the
chances of some sort of ligament tear.

Terminal Illness and Discussing Death
Terminally ill
patients may be better off discussing death with their doctors. A study
of 322 terminally ill cancer patients finds those who had discussions with
their doctors about their impending deaths received less aggressive medical
care and had a better quality of life in their remaining days. Discussing
their deaths with their doctors did not cause patients to be more
psychologically distressed. It did result in lower rates of resuscitation
and intensive care visits. Patients who talked with their doctors about
their deaths entered hospice sooner and had a better overall quality of life.

Can Duct Tape Remove Warts?
It is one of
those old wives tales that has been sticking around, so to speak, for years.
Does duct tape help remove warts? Well, here’s the idea. People who have warts
are often looking for ways to get rid of them, and warts are notorious for
popping up and disappearing out of the blue. One of the most popular options is
applying silver duct tape over the wart. The theory is, over time, the sticky
adhesive helps remove them. Researchers at the University of Minnesota studied
the phenomenon and found the tape did not appear to help.

What are Fibroids?
One of the most
common causes of irregular periods associated with abdominal pain and also a
cause of constant stress and feeling of bloating is fibroids. Often women will
have an enlargement in the uterus as they get older. Mostly it’s a smooth muscle
component and it starts to grow and develop and get bigger. After a while, that
takes effect. It’s kind of anatomically in there pushing on every other
structure. There are procedures out there. Nonsurgical or minimal surgical
procedures that will work

Dealing with Pain Can Cause Fatigue
Fatigue is a
major health issue and it is not really a cause of pain, but it can be the
result of pain. If you experience a great deal of pain, it can actually cause
fatigue; it can cause you to be tired, depressed, emotionally upset. It’s very
important that when we are dealing with pain, we do what we can to try to
minimize and understand it so we don’t get caught in that cycle.
Preventing Colon Cancer
There are many
preventive tests out there, but some are more crucial than others because they
can make a dramatic impact. Take colonoscopy. One in 20 people will
develop colon cancer at some point in their lives and the early detection of
polyps is crucial to preventing and controlling it. Colonoscopy is
recommended for everyone over age 50, but for people with a family history of
colon cancer, it's recommended at 40. Colonoscopy is done even earlier if
a family member suffered colon cancer at an early age.

Be Careful About Liposuction
Liposuction is
certainly a treatment that's effective for trying to get rid of those extra fat
pads and problems. But what a lot of people don't realize about
liposuction is that if it's not done properly, or there isn't thought for years
down the road, you can actually have pockets or holes that appear like big gaps
in the skin. You might look good, for instance, when you're 28, but when
you're 50 you might have that gap there. So, liposuction needs to
have the vision of someone who's looking years down the road.
Stress Affects Your Health
You can’t
underestimate the role of stress. Stress can lead to high blood pressure. It
can actually lead to severe heart problems and problems down the road. It can
affect your health. If you’re dealing with stress, take the opportunity to try
to find ways to reduce the pressure. To try to kind of cut back on it. Stress
is something, a situation, where when you feel the tension, it can affect
hormones in the body and cause what we call a catecholamine surge. That is not
good if it’s on a consistent basis.
